Lost Wax Silver Ring Workshop - $500
Learn the art of carving and shaping wax to create your own unique ring. Jewellery made using this technique is first carved from a piece of wax and is then cast in metal.
Working with wax is really relaxing. Students often describe it as therapeutic. Many people who have completed this workshop have continued making wax jewellery as a hobby. A number of people have started their own small businesses making and selling their own jewellery.
You can apply the skills you learn in this workshop to carve brooches, earrings and pendants. You'll receive making instructions and all the information you will need to get your pieces cast.
Spend half a day learning to carve a ring (or two) from wax. You'll learn about the different types of waxes and how they are used. There's also lots of different types of wax tools in the studio that you'll be able to use during the workshop.
After the first workshop your ring is sent to Melbourne to be cast in either sterling silver (15 grams and one casting fee are included your course fees) or for an extra fee gold or platinum. A few weeks later, we will gather again for half a day to finish making your ring. And the best part is, you don't need any previous experience.
Once you have the knowledge, making pieces from wax is something you can continue from home without needing to purchase lots of expensive tools. These lost wax jewellery making tool kits have all the necessary tools you need to start making from home.
For some inspiration on the types of pieces you can make using the lost wax technique, check out the Pod Jewellery Pinterest board on Lost Wax Making.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS COURSE IS HELD OVER TWO HALF DAYS IN THE AFTERNOON. If you're unable to make the second half of the workshop on the date listed, get in touch to arrange joining the second half of the workshop at a later date.
As this is a half day workshop, some people also choose to also attend the Silver Earring Workshop, which is held in the morning before this workshop. We work directly with sterling silver in the Silver Earring Making Workshop, so you'll get an understanding of working directly with metal in the morning and then learn a completely different technique of working with wax in the afternoon.
This workshop is a pre-requisite for the Stone Setting in Wax Workshop.
If you'd like to work directly with silver to make a ring band, rather than making a ring from wax that will be cast in silver, consider attending the one day Silver Ring Workshop.
