Cast Set Stones in Wax Workshop - $490 - NEW WORKSHOP
or make 4 interest-free payments of $25 AUD fortnightly with More info
This intermediate level workshop is a follow-on from our Lost Wax Silver Ring Workshop. In this class, you'll learn to set stones into wax, which will then be cast into place.
On the first half day you work with wax to carve your ring and set your stones into the wax. The wax rings are then taken to Melbourne to be cast in silver (included in the course cost) or gold or platinum (at an additional cost). We gather again for half a day one week later so you can clean and polish the ring.
For some inspiration on cast setting in wax check out the Pod Jewellery Pinterest board on Lost Wax Making.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS COURSE IS HELD OVER TWO DAYS. FIRST DAY 9:30AM-4:30PM, SECOND DAY 1:30-5:30PM.
If you'd like to learn how to create settings in wax and then set the stone after it has been cast, consider attending the Facetted Stone Setting in Wax Workshop. Many types of stones cannot be cast set, as they can't take the heat of the casting process. So knowing how to set stones after the piece has been cast will give you more variety in terms of the types of gemstones that can be set.
You must have completed the Lost Wax Silver Ring Workshop before booking in for this class.
If you'd like to learn to set cabochon stones directly into metal, consider our Stone Set Ring Workshop.
Written instructions, a list of suppliers, tool list, a gourmet lunch on the first day and morning/afternoon tea are included. All tools and materials (except gold/platinum) are provided. A sterling silver ring weighing 15 grams and 6 facetted gemstones to set are included in the workshop cost. If you would like to make a heavier ring or to include more gemstones, you can pay for the extra silver, which will be charged at cost price.
If you'd like to buy a workshop as a gift but you're not sure what date the recipient will be able to go, you can purchase a Pod Jewellery Gift Certificate. This gives the recipient the flexibility to book into a workshop at a time that suits them.
Start time: 1:30pm both days.
Duration: Six hours first day and four hours second day.
Workshop location: Workshops are held at the Pod Jewellery Studio in Kyneton - a one-hour drive north of Melbourne along the Calder Freeway.
A $100 deposit is required to secure your place. The balance of $390 is payable one week before the workshop.
A minimum of two students must be enrolled for this workshop to run and the workshop is limited to four students.
