Jewellery Workshops FAQs

Where do I find out more information about Pod Jewellery Workshops?
Find out more about our Jewellery Making Workshops.

How often to Pod Jewellery Workshops run?
Jewellery Making Classes run all year round. You can keep up-to-date with when the latest jewellery courses are happening by following Pod Jewellery on the social media links below or by signing up for our newsletter.

Do I need any experience?
These jewellery making classes are suitable for absolute beginners and those with some experience.

I want to learn to make jewellery, which workshop should I start with?
Our workshops are suitable for beginners and you can do them in any order. The most popular workshop is the Intensive Beginners Jewellery Short Course. You can also start with the Silver Ring Workshop. The stone setting workshop is the only workshop where you need to have completed the Intensive Beginners Jewellery Short Course first.

Will I learn enough skills to start making jewellery at home?
Yes, you learn basic jewellery making skills in every workshop. After the workshop, you also receive detailed making instructions, a list of tools to buy, a list of suppliers, so you know where to buy metal and have things cast. Tools are also available for purchase in the studio. I have put together fantastic jewellery tool kits containing the same tools you'll be using in class.

How long are the jewellery making classes?
Jewellery workshops range from half a day to two days. They're designed to give you lots of useful skills without the long-term commitment needing to return each week.

How many students are in each class?
Workshops are limited to three students. A minimum of two students must be enrolled for a workshop to run.

I'd like to sign up for a workshop, how do I enrol?
All workshops can be booked on this website. Select the workshop and date you'd like to attend, and then choose to pay a $100 deposit ($200 for the Intensive Beginners Jewellery Short Course) or pay in full. If you choose to pay the deposit when booking, the final balance is due one week before your workshop. You can also pay the balance at any time, although a payment link will be emailed to you two weeks before the workshop. You can also pre-pay your balance in instalments. Pleaseemail Bec to arrange.

What do I need to bring to the workshop?
You will receive an information pack email in the week prior to the workshop. It will give you all the details you need, such as what to wear, where to go and anything you might need to bring.

Can I take photos and video during the workshop?
You're welcome to take photos and/or video important parts of the workshop, such as soldering. For the privacy of others in the class, please don't video or photograph other participants without their permission.

Do I need to buy tools or equipment?
All of the tools, equipment and materials are provided. However, if you decide to make your piece from gold, this will be an additional fee. Up to 70 grams of sterling silver is included in your workshop fee. Tools are available for purchase in the studio.

Can I work with gold or platinum?
You can also choose to make your pieces from 9ct or 18ct yellow, white or rose gold for an additional fee.

If you would like to make a ring that is 3mm wide and under, there will be 9ct yellow and rose gold available for purchase in the studio. If you make your ring from silver, there's a massive selection of silver to choose from, and the cost is included in the workshop fee.

Do I get to take home what I make?
Of course. You will leave the workshop with the stunning pieces of jewellery that you have made with your own hands!

Where are the workshops held?
The workshops are held at Pod Studio just outside Kyneton, an easy 55-minute drive (85km) north of Melbourne along the Calder Freeway. Pod Studio is fully equipped with everything you'll need to make a beautiful and unique piece of jewellery. In the weeks prior to the workshop, you will receive an email with details of the location of the studio and what to bring.

Can I catch public transport?
You can also catch a V/Line train from Southern Cross Station to Kyneton. Kyneton is on the Bendigo line. The studio is located just out of Kyneton and is not within walking distance of the station or local accommodation.

Who teaches your workshops?
Workshops are taught by Bec de Podolinsky. Bec is a goldsmith based in Kyneton in Central Victoria. You can watch a video of Bec below:

What happens if a workshop is scheduled and a Code Red Fire Danger Rating is declared for that day?
Code Red conditions are the worst conditions for a bush or grassfire. The Country Fire Authority advises Victorians that in response to bushfire threat on a Code Red day, leaving Designated Bushfire Prone Areas the night before or early in the morning is the safest option.

As Pod Studio is located in a bushfire prone area, all workshops scheduled on days declared as Code Red will be postponed and the studio will not be open. These workshops will be rescheduled for a later date. Where possible, workshops will be cancelled the day before or as soon as a Code Red day has been announced. You will be contacted by phone at least one day prior if your workshop is being postponed due to to a Code Red Day.

What precautions are you taking due to COVID-19?
The studio is deep cleaned and additional hygiene and cleaning measures are in place as part of our COVIDSafe Plan. Classes are now limited to three students to adhere to physical distancing requirements. You'll have your own set of tools and protective equipment, which is sanitised before each class. Hand sanitiser and sanitising wipes will also be available.
