Wax Carving & Filing Tools

Lost wax carving is a subtractive process. You start with a block or tube of wax and remove material until you have the shape you want. That means the tools you use for cutting, scraping, and refining are doing the real work, and having a good range of tip profiles makes a significant difference to what you can achieve.

Wax carving tools are the foundation of any lost wax kit. Each tool in a set has a different tip shape designed for a different kind of cut: pointed tips for fine lines and detail work, flat and curved blades for removing larger areas of wax, spoon-shaped ends for scooping out inside curves. The more profiles you have available, the more control you have over the form you're working toward.

The Wax Carving Tools Set of 5 covers the most commonly used profiles and is a solid starting point for beginners or anyone working on straightforward ring and pendant forms. The Set of 12 gives you a much broader range of profiles and is worth having if you're doing more complex work, carving regularly, or want finer control over detail and surface finishing.

The Double-Ended Lost Wax File is a dedicated wax file, which is different from a metal file. Wax files have a coarser, more open cut that removes wax cleanly without clogging. This one is double-ended, giving you two different profiles in one tool: one side for flat surfaces and external curves, the other for getting into tighter internal areas. If you're doing any serious wax carving, a wax file is not optional.

The Art Knife Scalpel is a versatile addition to any wax carving setup. The fine blade is useful for precise cuts, trimming sprue attachment points, cleaning up sharp edges, and any detail work that needs a clean slicing action rather than a scraping one.
