Sand Casting Delft Clay Casting Kit

Delft Clay is the premium ultra-fine Dutch clay mix used for the delft clay or sand casting method. Casting is great fun and has been used to make jewellery for thousands of years.

This method can be used to cast almost any hard object including shells, sticks, acorns, seeds, pottery, existing pieces of jewellery, nuts, keys and other metal objects, teeth, bone, gum nuts and so much more. You can also carve your own wax jewellery and then create the mould in delft clay and cast your own pieces.

Please note: some suppliers are selling a "delft clay style" or petrabond clay. This is not genuine Delft clay. We have tested this in the studio and the results were not a good as genuine Delft Clay.

We also have a Complete Sandcasting Delft Clay Casting Kit, which includes a small casting crucible set and WHIP holder, borax powder, sterling silver casting granules, and much more.

What's included

This casting method is also a great way to use your scrap silver and gold or to repurpose jewellery you have at home.

Kit includes:

2kg of Delft Clay
1 X 60mm Aluminium Casting Ring Frame
Step-by-step instructions including images

You will need casting equipment including a slow cooker, a Smith Little Torch, pickle, a brass brush, copper tongs and a ceramic soldering board to start casting your own pieces at home.

The clay is reusable, only a small amount of burnt clay needs to be disposed of each time and the rest can be reused many times.

Clay will retain its moisture levels for between 5-8 years. We've been using the same bag of clay in the studio for seven years and it's still going strong.

You will need to season new crucibles with Borax Powder before using them for the first time.

We have tested Delft Clay and Petrobond (a cheaper imitation of Delft Clay) in the studio. Petrobond doesn't pack as tightly and the end result isn't as clean as Delft Clay and we do not recommend using Petrobond for sand casting.

If you need your item sooner, please let us know when you place your order, and we will do our best to meet your deadline. Choosing Express Post does not guarantee your order will be packed any quicker, but it will be shipped via Express Post.

Shipping Protection covers items that are lost, damaged or stolen during transit. It does not cover items delayed by customs.

Customs and duty fees may apply to orders outside Australia and are the responsibility of the buyer.

We accept returns and exchanges for up to 30 days on most of our items within Australia and New Zealand. Exclusions apply including — consumables, final sale products, and other select items. Learn more about our returns policy here.

Sustainability

Eco-Friendly Packaging

We believe it’s our responsibility to help reduce waste, which is why we do our best to ensure our packaging is recyclable and biodegradable.

We are actively working with our manufacturers to help reduce the plastic packaging used in the products we buy. We’re trying our hardest to reduce, remove or reuse plastic. An exception is our A4 copper sheets, which are packaged in recycled zip lock bags, as we’re unable to source biodegradable zip lock bags in this size.

We try to reuse cardboard boxes, so your order might arrive in a box that has been used before. We also use new boxes made from recycled materials that we encourage you to use again.

Our packing tape, padded mailing satchels, packing peanuts and bubble wrap are biodegradable and compostable. Wherever possible, we use biodegradable zip lock bags.

100% Carbon neutral shipping

Transportation used to ship orders burns fossil fuels and generates carbon emissions. Those emissions trap heat, leading to climate change. Pod Jewellery offsets the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from every shipment.

All amounts displayed on this site are in $AUD - Australian Dollars.

All payments are processed in Australian dollars. Due to currency conversion, the amount billed to your credit card may slightly vary from the total amount shown at checkout.

GST

All prices listed on podjewellery.com.au are inclusive of 10% GST and all purchases delivered within Australia will incur the standard GST rates.

All international purchases are exempt from Australian taxes; however, they may incur taxes and duties applied by customs in the country where the order is delivered.

Collecting items
If you would like to collect any item, please select the pick-up option in the delivery method when checking out. You will then need to email or call Bec to arrange a time to collect your purchase.

Gift wrapping

Physical gift certificates are packed in Pod Jewellery boxes and gift wrapped.
