925 Sterling Silver Casting Granules

When you melt your own metal, what goes into the crucible decides what comes out of the mould. These 925 sterling silver casting granules are the silver granules we use for casting in our own studio. Small grains reach melting temperature faster than sheet or odd-sized offcuts, giving you a clean, complete pour. Sterling's copper content gives cast pieces the strength to hold fine detail and take a high polish.

Casting grain suits every method we teach and use. It packs neatly into a crucible for lost wax casting, pours beautifully in sand casting with our Complete Delft Clay Casting Kit, and works just as well for cuttlefish casting. A pinch of borax in the melt keeps the surface bright and helps the silver flow into fine detail.

Working out how much silver to buy for a casting? Weigh your wax model and use our free Wax & Metal Calculator to convert wax weight to sterling silver, then allow a little extra for the sprue and button. It's the method our students use in classes and it takes the guesswork out of ordering.

Worth knowing:

  • Cast pieces roll, forge and join with sterling silver solder like any standard stock, so you can refine your castings at the bench.
  • Mixing fresh granules through clean sterling scrap refreshes recycled melts and improves flow.
