If you're time-poor like me, then this intensive beginners jewellery making short- course is for you. It's held over two-full-days during the week or on a weekend. You’ll work at your own pace while learning the fundamentals of jewellery making.
This intensive workshop is great value for money. There are no additional costs and no need to pay extra to work in silver, it’s all included. And you also get a gourmet lunch both days. So rather than attending classes week-after-week, you'll learn it all in two days. This is the only Intensive Beginners Jewellery Short Course in Victoria.
Everyone will be making different pieces of jewellery, so you'll see how various types of jewellery is made. Classes are held around a big jewellers bench, so you'll have your own space, mircomotor and tool kit to use during the class. And, the beauty of working around this big jewellers bench is that you see what everyone else is working on. It's great fun and a really supportive environment in which to learn.
At the end of this course you’ll take home three finished pieces of silver jewellery - one pair of earrings, a pendant, (or a second pair of earrings) and a ring. These pieces will look professional and you'll be proud to show them off.
Most importantly, you'll be making pieces of jewellery to suit your style and taste. The pieces you make in this class might even be the start of your first range of jewellery. You'll be able to use the skills you learn in this beginners jewellery short course to start making your own pieces of jewellery at home.
In this intensive beginners jewellery making course, you’ll learn the following:
- sawing and saw piercing
- soldering (rings, jump rings, earring posts and hooks, pendant bails)
- measuring your materials
- how to make earring hooks and posts for stud earrings
- how to make jump rings
- how to use a rolling mill
- finishing techniques
- essential studio safety
- different tools, what you do and don't need
- places to sell your jewellery
- how to price your work
- where to buy everything you need - tools, metal, findings, packaging, etc.
Like all of Pod Jewellery workshops, we work with sterling silver, you can also incorporate copper or brass into your work at no extra cost. You'll also have access to plenty of copper and brass to practise sawing, test out a texture or finish before applying it to your finished piece.
I'm a big believer of learning to use tools as you make your piece of jewellery, so we won't be spending hours doing sawing and hammering exercises. We'll be jumping straight into making our pieces and I'll provide you with plenty of guidance along the way.
You also have the option to work in gold. There will be a supply of 9ct yellow and rose gold available for purchase; however, if you'd like to make a specific piece, please get in touch beforehand to ensure I have what you need in stock. You can also make silver pieces with gold incorporated into them.
Included in your workshop fees are:
- a gourmet lunch on both days
- all tools, equipment and consumables (emery paper, solder, etc.)
- sterling silver, copper and brass
- morning and afternoon tea
- making instructions
- supplier lists
- tool list
Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options are available for morning and afternoon tea, and lunch.
Plus, you can also ask me anything, I’m happy to share any information I have. And if you're wanting to start your own jewellery business, I can provide you with some great contacts, teach you about pricing your pieces and answer any questions you might have. This doesn't end when the workshop ends. You can always contact me at any time after the workshop if have any questions or need some advice.
