Double-Ended Lost Wax File

If you're working in wax and you only want one file on your bench, this is the one to get. The double-ended format gives you a flat profile on one end and a half-round profile on the other, so you have two completely different filing surfaces in a single tool. That covers the majority of what you'll need when shaping and refining a wax model.

The flat end handles straight surfaces, flat faces, and edges. The half-round end follows curves, works the inside of ring shanks, and gets into concave areas that a flat file can't reach. Both ends have dual-cut teeth designed specifically for wax work, with a coarse side for removing material quickly and a medium side for refining. The file tapers to a point, which helps with detail areas and tighter spots.

Wax files are not the same as metal files. The teeth are cut differently so they move wax efficiently without clogging, which makes a real difference to how the tool performs over time. Keep a file cleaning brush nearby to clear the teeth as you work.

This file is 203mm long and is part of our standard recommendation for anyone setting up a wax carving toolkit for lost wax casting.

Worth knowing:

  • Flat end for straight surfaces, half-round end for curves and ring shanks
  • Dual-cut teeth: coarse for fast removal, medium for refining
  • Tapered profile for access to detail areas and tight spots
  • 203mm length
  • Also included most of our wax kits in the Ultimate Lost Wax Jewellery Tool Kit
