Brass Hand Brush - High Quality German

After your piece comes out of the pickle, a brass brush is what gets it clean. We use this in the studio every time we solder. Once a piece has been in the pickle, there's often a white silver surface, residual oxidation, or sometimes a copper flush left on the metal. A quick scrub with the brass brush and some dishwashing detergent removes all of that and leaves an even, smooth surface ready for the next stage of finishing.

Brass is the right bristle material for this job because it's soft enough not to scratch your silver or gold, but firm enough to clean effectively. A steel wire brush would be too aggressive and would scratch the surface. The 0.10mm crimped brass bristles on this one are fine and consistent, which is what gives you an even clean without catching or dragging across the metal.

This brush is made in Germany with four rows of bristles and a wooden handle, and it holds up well to daily studio use. It's the same brush we've been using in the studio for years.

One thing to keep in mind: don't leave this brush soaking in water. After use, rinse it, shake off the excess water, and dry it. The wooden handle will deteriorate over time if it stays wet.

Worth knowing:

  • 0.10mm crimped brass bristles, four rows
  • Made in Germany, wooden handle, 220mm length
  • Use with dishwashing detergent and water
  • Do not soak in water; rinse and dry after each use
  • Suitable for silver and gold, soft enough not to over-scratch
