Large Crucible Set with WHIP Holder

This is the crucible and holder we use in the studio, and the WHIP design is the reason we chose it over everything else we tried. Most crucible holders hold the dish at a fixed distance from your hand, which makes it awkward to get the spout directly over the mould when you're pouring. The WHIP, invented by master jeweller Jay Whaley, puts the crucible right at the end of a long arm so you can position the spout precisely and pour with real control.

We reach for this set for sand casting and cuttlefish casting. For both, a clean, well-aimed pour makes a real difference, any overshoot or hesitation means wasted metal and a ruined piece. The WHIP takes the guesswork out of getting the spout exactly where you need it.

This set includes one Large WHIP Crucible Holder along with both our Large and Extra Large ceramic crucibles, so you've got the holder plus two crucible sizes to suit different melts.

Worth knowing:

• You'll need to season each crucible with Borax Powder before using it for the first time, this creates a protective glaze on the interior and helps metal flow cleanly.
• Because this set is already priced as a bundle, the pieces can't be swapped or substituted individually.
