Matt Wax Ring Carving Tube with Flat Top Style A3 - Blue

This A3 wax tube is the widest and tallest style we stock, which is why it's the one we point people to for a large signet ring or a wider finger size. Lost wax casting starts with a solid wax blank like this one. You saw, carve and file it into the shape of the ring, then send it off to be cast in metal.

The extra width and height compared to our smaller tubes gives you more wax to work with, both around the band and across the top. That extra bulk matters most on signet rings and flat-top styles, where you need enough wax left to carve a raised design or an engraving surface without running out halfway through.

We stock this tube in blue, the softest of our wax colours and the one we reach for most in the studio when we're teaching wax carving. It saws and carves cleanly with hand tools, holds fine detail, and won't soften or go tacky in your hands the way some cheaper waxes do. The melt temperature is a low 107°C, so smoothing or patching an area with a wax pen is straightforward if you need to.

If you don't have wax files or carving tools yet, have a look through our range of wax carving and filing tools. And if lost wax casting is new to you, our wax pens and heating tools collection has what you'll need for smoothing, joining and detail work as you go.

Worth knowing:

  • This tube runs 150mm long with a 15.875mm bore, big enough to carve most signet and wide-band styles before sizing down
  • It's the widest and tallest tube in the A-series, so if you're not working on a large or chunky ring, one of our narrower tubes will go further for the price
