A file handle is one of those things you don't think about until you've tried filing metal without one. The bare tang digs into your palm, your grip shifts, and your control suffers. A good handle fixes all of that, and this hardwood one does the job well without any fuss.

The twist-on fitting is what makes this handle genuinely useful across your whole file collection. Rather than being hammered on and stuck, it screws onto the tang of your file and locks on firmly. That means you can move the same handle between different metal file tools as needed, which is handy if you're building up your set gradually. If you do a lot of hand filing and switch between files regularly, picking up a couple of handles is more convenient than sharing one.

The hardwood construction has a metal collar at the base, which reinforces the wood where the tang sits and keeps the handle solid over years of use. It's sized to fit 150mm (6-inch) hand files, which covers most of the files you'll use for jewellery work, including the Grobet half-round slim, which is the file we use and recommend in our classes.

If you're also looking at needle files for finer detail work, those are typically used without handles, so this one is specifically for your hand files.

Worth knowing:

  • Twist-on fitting screws securely onto the file tang, no hammering required
  • Interchangeable across files, handy if you're building up your metal file collection
  • Hardwood with a metal collar for long-lasting reinforcement
  • Sized to fit 150mm (6-inch) hand files
  • Pairs with the Grobet half-round slim hand file (available separately)
  • Also included in the Premium Jewellery Tool Starter Kit
