Chain nose pliers are the most-used pliers on any jewellery bench. If you only buy one pair, this is the one. The flat inner jaws taper to a narrow point, which makes them incredibly versatile: opening and closing jump rings, bending wire, gripping small components, repositioning findings, making sharp angles, and getting into tight spots that other pliers can't reach.
They're also the plier you'll use in pairs. Two chain nose pliers working together is the standard technique for opening and closing jump rings cleanly, twisting the ends forward and back rather than pulling them apart, which keeps the ring round and the join tight.
All of our chain nose pliers have smooth jaws. That matters for jewellery work because serrated jaws leave marks in soft metals like silver and copper.
We stock three individual options depending on your budget and how you work.
The Pod Jewellery 130mm Chain Nose Pliers are our most affordable option, with box-joint construction and double leaf springs. A solid, reliable everyday pair that's great for beginners and hobbyists.
The German Chain Nose Pliers are manufactured in Germany to a higher specification. Heavier duty, more precise, and built for regular studio use. These are the ones to reach for if you're at the bench most days.
The Chain Nose Parallel Pliers have smooth jaws that stay parallel as they close, giving you even pressure across the whole jaw rather than just at the tip. Particularly useful for detail work, chainmaille, and any task where you need a controlled, even grip without distortion.
Not sure where to start? We also have two sets of five pliers, each in a zip-up carry case, with a chain nose pair included alongside flat nose, round nose, half round/flat bending, and flush cutters. The Pod Jewellery green-handled set is a high quality, great value option well suited to beginners through to regular hobbyists. The German red-handled set is our premium option, manufactured in Germany to a higher specification for those at the bench most days. Both sets are better value than buying individual pairs.
