Mitre Cutting Vice Large

A mitre jig is one of those jewellery making supplies that solves a problem you didn't fully realise you had until you use one. For ring making, getting two ends of wire or sheet to meet cleanly before soldering is fundamental, and it's genuinely difficult to achieve freehand, especially with wider stock or unusual angles. This large mitre cutting jig holds your metal at a fixed 45°, 60°, or 90° angle and guides your saw through a precise slot, giving you a clean, repeatable cut every time.

We use this jewellers vice jig in every ring making class we run. Getting a good solder join starts well before the torch comes out, and the most common reason joins don't close properly is that the ends simply aren't flat and square. The mitre jig removes that variable entirely.

The large size is the one to reach for when you're working with wider pieces: spinner ring bases, wide band blanks, or sheet metal up to 25mm across. It handles the three most useful angles for jewellery work, and you can use it clamped to the bench or hand-held depending on your setup. High carbon steel construction means it takes real use, and any surface scratching from the saw is completely normal.

If you're working primarily with standard ring wire and narrower stock, the smaller version may suit you — the key difference is that this large model adds the 60° angle guide.

Worth knowing:

  • Works on wire, strip, and sheet metal up to 25mm wide
  • High carbon steel — wipe down with a lightly oiled cloth after each use, and apply a light penetrating oil (such as 3-in-One) before storing
  • If light rust develops, remove with fine steel wool or a Scotch-Brite pad, then re-oil
