Quality Ball Peen (Pein) Hammer

A ball peen hammer is one of the most useful jewellers hammers to have on your bench, and this 2oz version handles the tasks you reach for it most often: flattening metal, removing dents, shaping, and riveting.

The two faces do different things. The flat face is for general forming and smoothing work on metal. The ball end is for peening, which is the technique of spreading or working a rivet head to seat it securely. Used with a steady, controlled strike, the ball pein gives you a clean, rounded result on the rivet without distorting the surrounding metal.

At 2oz this is a lightweight hammer, which suits the scale of most jewellery work well. A heavier ball peen hammer can be too forceful for fine work, and this weight gives you more control over each strike.

Like all jewellers hammers, this one is for use on precious metal only. Do not use it on steel, with disc cutters, or with metal stamps, as this will damage the faces over time.

Worth knowing:

  • Flat face for forming and smoothing, ball end for peening and riveting
  • 2oz weight, well suited to fine jewellery work
  • For use on precious metal only, not on steel, disc cutters, or stamps
