Quality  28mm Chasing Hammer

A chasing hammer is one of the most reached-for tools on a jewellery bench, and this one is built to earn that spot on yours. The Quality 28mm Chasing Hammer gives you two faces in one tool: a flat face for flattening and forming metal, and a smaller round end for building up a hammered texture with repeated strikes.

Both faces are polished smooth, so they won't transfer marks to your metal the way a rougher hammer face would. We've tested this one in the studio against jewellers hammers that cost a good deal more, and it holds its own for everyday bench work.

One thing to keep in mind: this hammer is designed for precious metal only. Don't use it on steel, and don't use it with disc cutters or metal stamps, since that kind of impact will damage the polished faces over time. If you're ready to step up to a premium option later, the Fretz chasing hammer follows the same idea built to a higher spec.

This hammer is also one of the tools included in our Foundation Jewellery Making and Soldering Kit, so if you're assembling a full bench setup, it's worth checking there before buying it on its own.

Worth knowing:

  • The flat face and the round end are for different jobs. Use the round end only for texturing, not forming.
  • Studio tested against pricier jewellers hammers and holds up to regular use.
