A bezel roller does the part of bezel setting that pushers find hardest: closing the wall down evenly all the way around. Instead of pressing at one point, you rock its curved, half-round face back and forth over the bezel, so the pressure spreads along a longer section of metal. The result is a smoother, tighter bezel with fewer dents, ripples and tool marks.
It works best once the stone is caught and held. Start with a Bezel Pusher with V Groove to tack the wall over at a few points, then switch to the bezel rocker to work in the gaps and bring the whole edge down together. It really comes into its own on larger cabochons and on the long, straighter sides of ovals and rectangles, where a pointed pusher can leave a row of small flat spots.
Because the polished steel face slides over the metal rather than digging in, it's forgiving if you're new to stone setting. Once the wall is down, a Curved Burnisher tightens and brightens the top edge for a clean finish.
