The A2 is the wider version of our A1 flat top tube, giving you more wax across the top and around the sides but less height on top that the A1 tube. That extra width makes it the better starting point if you're carving a larger ring or working on a design for bigger fingers, where the A1's proportions would leave you short on wax before you've even started shaping.
Like the A1, it's cast with a flat top and a centre hole, so it still suits a signet ring or any design that needs extra height on one face. If your ring is a standard size and you don't need the extra wax, the A1 is the more economical pick and carves down faster since there's less bulk to remove.
This tube is made for carving a lost wax ring, the process where you shape the ring in wax first and cast it in metal afterwards. It saws, carves and drills cleanly, and holds its shape in your hands rather than softening as you work it. Blue is the softest wax we stock, which makes it a forgiving choice even with the extra bulk this tube gives you to carve through.
