Tripod with Mesh Screen

A soldering tripod with mesh is one of those soldering tools that earns its place on the bench quickly. The mesh screen sits on top of the three legs and supports your work while allowing heat to come from underneath and around the piece, which is what you need for even heating. We use ours in the studio regularly when soldering a bezel to a base plate; being able to direct the torch from below makes a real difference to how evenly the heat travels through the metal.

The mesh is removable, which opens up a second use. Remove it, place a small bowl in the circular top ring (the kind used in oil burners works well), and you can heat wax from underneath using an alcohol lamp or a candle. This works well for melting Mitsuro Hikime and other soft modelling waxes.

One important safety note: the tripod and any bowl placed on it will become extremely hot during use. Take extra care when removing work or touching any part of the setup after heat has been applied, and allow everything to cool fully before handling.

Worth knowing:

  • 228mm high with removable 150mm x 150mm mesh screen
  • With mesh removed, holds a bowl for melting wax from underneath using an alcohol lamp or candle
  • Allow to cool fully before handling after use
