Make beautiful jewellery with sterling silver wire. We stock a wide range of sterling silver wire in various forms.
Round wire is our most popular wire and is great for making rings, findings, bangles and earrings. It's also perfect for crochet jewellery and our 0.3mm round wire is popular with jewellery makers who are making crochet jewellery.
Half-round wire is great for adding a softer curved shape to rings, bangles and hoop earrings. Larger half-round wire is also fantastic for making bold, chunky silver statement rings.
Oval wire is available in high and low profile. We love making rings and bangles from this as the curved inside makes pieces made from this wire super comfortable to wear.
Flat (rectangle) wire is perfect for stacker rings, spinner rings, earrings and pendants.
Square wire is great for rings, pendants and bangles. All of our sterling silver wire is available in a range of gauges.
Patterned Wires
We stock the largest range of patterned silver wire in Australia. Patterned wire is also known as embossed wire and adds instant texture to your jewellery.
Patterned wire is perfect for making rings, hoop earrings and bangles. Like our plain silver wire, our patterned silver wire can be oxidised with Liver of sulphur to create a blackened surface.
Size of Wire
We stock silver patterned wire in a range of sizes. The size of the wire refers to its diameter for round wire and width and depth for all other shapes.
Our smallest silver wire is 0.3mm in diameter and is perfect for making finely detailed jewellery. Our largest silver wire is 15.0mm wide rectangular wire and is perfect for making statement jewellery. We use 10mm, 12mm and 15mm wide rectangular wire for the bases of our spinner rings.
The length of the silver wire we stock varies depending on the dimension of the wire. Our silver wire is available in lengths of 1-metre, 500mm, 250mm, 200mm and 150mm.
Ring making wire is usually sold by the metre as you can make at least three rings out of a 200mm length.
Our bangle wire is sold in 250mm lengths. You can make one bangle out of a 250mm length.
We sell earring wire by the metre as it's often used in small amounts. Our jewellery-making earring wire is round 0.8mm or 0.9mm hard sterling silver.
Composition of Wire
Our silver wire is made from high-quality 925 sterling silver. Sterling silver is an alloy of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. This makes it a durable alloy and resistant to corrosion. Sterling silver wire is perfect for making jewellery.
We stock our silver wire in three tempers; dead soft, half hard and hard. Dead soft silver wire is pliable and easy to bend, shape and hammer. It's perfect for wire wrapping and is a great starting wire.
Half-hard silver wire is a great all-round wire and slightly stronger than dead soft wire.
Hard silver wire is our strongest silver wire and is great for making components that need to hold their shape like earring wire.
When finishing your pieces, remember that the harder the metal is, the brighter a finish it will have. You can work-harden pieces by hammering, tumbling or embossing a pattern through a rolling mill.
Hardness is changeable. All our silver wires can be annealed (softened) and work hardened.
